San Francisco Restaurant & Café Architect
Thoughtful spaces for food, people, and the business behind them
Opening a restaurant, café, or bakery brings a lot of decisions together: how the space feels, how your team works, what equipment you need, and what it will take to get the project approved.
Creates Cool is a San Francisco architecture and design studio helping food and beverage businesses bring those decisions into one coordinated plan. We design welcoming interiors and practical layouts, with permitting considered from the beginning.
Whether you are evaluating a location, renovating an existing restaurant, or building out a new café, we help define the scope and guide the next steps.
Designed around your menu, team, and customers
A good hospitality space needs to work on both sides of the counter. We consider the customer experience alongside food preparation, service, storage, cleaning, and staff circulation.
Our services can include:
Feasibility studies and space planning.
Dining areas, service counters, kitchens, and back-of-house layouts.
Interior materials, finishes, lighting, and branding integration.
Equipment coordination with your culinary team and suppliers.
Coordination with structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing consultants.
Accessibility planning and restroom layouts.
Permit drawings, agency coordination, and responses to review comments.
Construction support and design clarifications.
Each proposal identifies the services and consultants appropriate to your project.
Understand the space before committing to the build-out
An existing restaurant can be a useful starting point, but previous layouts and approvals may not answer every question about your new concept.
We help review available records, existing conditions, proposed operations, and the anticipated approval process. An early assessment can identify questions to resolve with the landlord, contractor, equipment team, and reviewing agencies before detailed design begins.
From concept through construction
We begin with your menu, service model, equipment needs, budget, and opening goals. From there, we develop layouts and a design direction with your input.
Once the design is established, we prepare the agreed documentation and coordinate the consultant team. For San Francisco projects, agency coordination can include Planning, Building, Health, and other departments as applicable.
During construction, we can help answer contractor questions and coordinate design clarifications as part of the agreed scope.
Frequently asked questions
Can you help before I sign a lease?
Yes. An early feasibility review can help you understand the design questions and potential constraints of a space. Send us the address, available plans, photos, and a description of your concept.
Can you work with my chef or equipment supplier?
Yes. Equipment selections and kitchen operations are central to the design. We coordinate with your team and the relevant consultants so the layout responds to the actual equipment and service needs.
Do you provide interior design and permit drawings?
We offer both architectural and interior design services. Your proposal identifies what is included, from space planning and finishes to permit documentation and agency coordination.
How long will the project take?
Timing depends on the existing space, scope, consultant needs, and agency review. We discuss these factors early and develop a schedule as the project becomes clearer.
How are design fees determined?
We prepare a project-specific proposal based on the complexity of the work, requested services, and anticipated coordination. Consultant fees and other project expenses are identified separately.
