Games to Play with Our Domino Set
Dominoes is a universally loved game with deep cultural roots, easy-to-learn rules, and infinite variations. Whether you're playing a quick round with friends or a strategic match with family, our custom domino set is designed to elevate every moment.
Domino Games
1. Block
Block is the simplest and most popular domino game.
Objective: Be the first to play all your dominoes.
Setup: Each player draws a hand (typically 7 tiles for two players), and the rest are set aside. The player with the highest double starts.
Gameplay: Players take turns placing tiles end to end, matching numbers. If a player cannot play, they pass.
Winning: The first player to run out of tiles wins. If no one can play, the player with the lowest tile total wins.
2. Draw
Draw is similar to Block but adds a twist—players can pick up tiles if they can’t play.
Objective: Get rid of all your tiles.
Gameplay: If you can’t make a move, draw from the boneyard until you can. If the boneyard is empty and no moves can be made, the game ends.
Winning: The first player to play all tiles wins. If the game ends in a block, the player with the fewest points in-hand wins.
3. Mexican Train
A fun, social variation perfect for groups.
Objective: Be the first to play all your tiles on personal and shared trains.
Setup: Players start with 15 tiles and build a “train” off a central hub.
Gameplay: Players can add to their own train or the shared “Mexican Train.” If they can’t play, they draw one tile and pass if still unable to play.
Winning: The player with the lowest total score after all rounds wins.
4. Matador
Matador flips the rules—matching numbers doesn’t always work!
Objective: Be the first to play all your tiles by creating sums of 7 with adjacent tiles.
Gameplay: Instead of matching numbers, each new tile must make the sum of 7 with the open end. Matadors (tiles with 0–7, 1–6, 2–5, 3–4) are wild.
Winning: First to play all tiles or the lowest total if blocked.
5. All Fives (Muggins)
A points-based game that rewards smart play.
Objective: Score points by making the ends of the layout add up to a multiple of five.
Gameplay: On each play, calculate the total of the exposed ends. If it’s a multiple of 5 (like 10, 15, 20), you score that number in points.
Winning: First player to reach the target score (usually 100 or 200) wins.
6. Bergen
A matching game that rewards pairs.
Objective: Match numbers and score points for pairs.
Gameplay: Each time a player places a domino that matches both open ends with the same number, they score 2 points.
Winning: Player with the most points at the end of all rounds wins.
7. Chicken Foot
An offshoot of Mexican Train with branching plays.
Objective: Play all your tiles while forming "chicken foot" formations with doubles.
Gameplay: When a double is played, it must be followed by three matching tiles before play can continue elsewhere.
Winning: Low score wins after a set number of rounds.
Our Story: How We Created Our Domino Set
At Creates Cool, we believe great design should be tactile, functional, and joyful. Our domino set was born out of a desire to reimagine a classic—something familiar yet fresh, minimal yet warm.
Our domino set is ideal for your coffee table or your carry-on. We hope it sparks the kind of spontaneous games, laughter, and late-night rivalries that only dominoes can inspire.
This is just one of the many ways we’re rethinking the intersection of design and play. Stay tuned—there’s more to come.
