Dice Games

1. Yahtzee
Yahtzee is a classic dice game focusing on achieving specific combinations.

  • Objective: Score as many points as possible by rolling combinations like a full house, four of a kind, or a straight.

  • Setup: Players take turns rolling five dice up to three times per turn to achieve combinations listed on a scorecard.

  • Scoring: Points are awarded for various combinations, such as:

    • Three of a Kind: Total of all dice.

    • Four of a Kind: Total of all dice.

    • Full House: 25 points.

    • Small Straight: 30 points.

    • Large Straight: 40 points.

    • Yahtzee (five of a kind): 50 points.

  • Winning: The player with the highest total score at the end wins.

2. Farkle
Farkle is a fast-paced game of risk and reward.

  • Objective: Reach the highest score by accumulating points through scoring combinations.

  • Gameplay: Players roll five dice, trying to form combinations like three of a kind, straights, or five of a kind. They can keep scoring dice and re-roll non-scoring dice to add points, but if they roll without scoring, they lose that turn’s points.

  • Scoring: Typical points include:

    • Three of a Kind (1s): 1,000 points.

    • Three of a Kind (other numbers): 100 times the number (e.g., three 5s = 500 points).

    • Straight: 1,500 points.

  • Winning: The first player to reach the target score (e.g., 10,000 points) wins.

3. Liar's Dice
Liar's Dice combines luck and bluffing.

  • Objective: Be the last player with dice remaining.

  • Gameplay: Each player secretly rolls five dice and makes a bid on how many of a particular number are rolled among all players. Other players can challenge bids. If the bid is called, everyone reveals their dice, and the player who bid or challenged incorrectly loses a die.

  • Winning: The last player with any dice left wins.

4. Crown and Anchor
Crown and Anchor is a betting game with simple rules.

  • Objective: Place bets on which symbols will appear on the dice.

  • Gameplay: Although traditionally played with special dice, you can adapt by assigning numbers 1–6 to symbols. Players bet on outcomes, then roll five dice. Payouts depend on how many symbols match the bets.

  • Winning: Players collect payouts based on the number of dice that match their bets.

5. Ship, Captain, Crew
This game is about rolling a specific sequence to score points.

  • Objective: Roll a 6 (Ship), 5 (Captain), and 4 (Crew) in order, and score points with the remaining dice.

  • Gameplay: Players roll up to three times. After rolling a 6, 5, and 4, they can choose to stop or roll remaining dice to increase their score.

  • Winning: The player with the highest total score wins the round.

6. Ten Thousand (10,000)
Ten Thousand is a game of strategy and scoring.

  • Objective: Be the first player to reach 10,000 points by forming scoring combinations.

  • Gameplay: Players roll five dice and can re-roll non-scoring dice to accumulate points. Rolling without scoring loses the turn’s points.

  • Scoring: Combinations like three of a kind, straights, and five of a kind earn points.

  • Winning: The first player to reach 10,000 points wins.

7. Bunco
Bunco is a popular social dice game.

  • Objective: Roll matching numbers as many times as possible each round.

  • Gameplay: Each round has a target number (e.g., 1 for the first round). Players roll three dice, scoring points for matches, and calling “Bunco” if all numbers match.

  • Winning: Points are tallied each round, with awards for the most Buncos and overall points.

8. Crag
Crag is a fun dice game with various scoring possibilities.

  • Objective: Achieve high-scoring combinations like three pairs or a flush.

  • Gameplay: Players roll dice to create different combinations, with points for straights, pairs, and other combinations.

  • Winning: Players score based on successful combinations, and the player with the highest score wins.
